Sequence Model Capacity: RWKV-v7 vs. Transformers — NVIDIA
Evaluated non-Transformer recurrent sequence model architectures (RWKV-v4 & RWKV-v7) against standard Transformers, LSTMs, and GRUs for formal regular language expressivity. Designed synthetic language datasets (L1 Alternating Patterns, L2 Parity Counting, L3 Substring Matching, L4 Language Unions) paired with 1–3 edit-distance near-miss hard negative perturbations to stress-test model decision boundaries. Implemented a custom PyTorch CUDA C++ WKV Operator (wkv_kernel.cu) for accelerated state transitions.
